SERVICE PROJECT: Food/Toiletries/Cleaning Products Drive to Benefit HVCS

Hudson Valley Community Services serves our neighbors living with chronic illnesses, including HIV. The majority of the agency’s participants live under the poverty line; many rely on food pantries for nourishment for themselves and their families. HVCS has an emergency pantry in Hawthorne; it not only provides food, but also toiletries and cleaning products.

Indivisible Pleasantville (IP) will collect unopened food, toiletries, and cleaning products for our vulnerable neighbors. The drive will run from March 15-29. For a list of collection sites, contact Justine Fontinell at

Additionally, we have created an Amazon Wish List, for IP members who would like to simply order and ship their donations to our collection. Click Here to view the wish list.

If you are unable to drop your items at our collection sites, please email Justine at to make pick-up arrangements.

HVCS will accept any non-expired, non-perishable food items. The agency has requested, whenever possible, that you choose low-sodium options, since many of their clients have high blood pressure. The following foods are especially needed:

  • Canned meat and fish
  • Nuts and nut butters
  • Canned or dried beans
  • Pasta and sauce
  • Soups and stews
  • Applesauce
  • Dried/canned/jarred fruits
  • Canned vegetables
  • Rice or other grains
  • Cereals, oatmeal
  • Shelf-stable milk (boxed, canned, powdered)

Many of HVCS’ clients who are in need of food assistance also need basic toiletry and cleaning items. Non-food products cannot be purchased with food stamps—and many pantries do not collect such items—so these (unopened) toiletries and household cleaning supplies are especially needed:

  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo
  • Disposable razors
  • Dish soap
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Laundry detergent
  • Face/body soap
  • Paper towels
  • Bleach
  • All-purpose cleaners
